Celebrating children of foster carers

1During October, we’re celebrating the voices and stories of the incredible children of foster carers, highlighting the crucial role they play in fostering families!

Birth children can help foster children feel welcome, put them at ease and show a good example of their house rules, routines and traditions.   

Anna (Daughter of foster carers) told us -

"It's really beneficial for a foster child to be within a family unit, because they'll have kids their own age, things to play with and someone to chat to who isn't their foster carer.  It can make them feel...not more loved, but more normal"

Being part of a fostering family can also bring a lot to children of foster carers.  Jamie was 6 years old when his family started fostering.

"Flexibility and understanding came to me naturally from fostering from such a young age.  I couldn't really imagine not having a little brother who's been in care, as he's just part of our family"

How does fostering affect your children?

"Fostering babies has given me the freedom to be at home and enjoy quality time with my own daughter and family. Seeing my daughter with the babies and children is amazing - the empathy she has for the children who come to us when she is only four is amazing to see."
